Here's another "song you've heard before":
    Green Day - "American Idiot"

(And here's a ripped off version.)

You can learn about this controversy from the authoritative news source, wikipedia: "Fans of the band "Dillinger Four", will notice that Green Day ripped off the main guitar riff from The Dillinger Four's song "DoubleWhiskeyCokeNoIce", for their song "American Idiot"."

I've learned about it from Dillinger Four themselves. Everytime I've seen them play, their lead singer, Patty, gives a harangue about that fuckin' Billy Joe, the backstabber, who asked D4 to play on Green Day's Japanese tour, only to steal their song and sell out to the Canadians ("american idiot" was #1 for five weeks in Canada), while Patty is scraping by here in Minneapolis, serving drinks at our local sportsbar (Grumpy's... best Karaoke in town, by the way).

Green Day Sold Out?!?!? What?!! When?? FUCK! I thought I was one of only 6 Green Day fans. This is a sad day for punk rock.

Hey you, anonymous Candian terrorist, I meant that Green Day sold out America, not punk rock. Anyways, punk has been dead to me since 1986, when i discovered hip-hop.

actually the entire album "American Idiot" contains so much rock history that it almost crosses the line from huge rip-off to a postmodern whatchamagig.... find these American Edit tracks:

    American Edit (wikipedia)

(you've probably heard Boulevard of Broken Songs).

here's my favorite: Dr. Who on Holiday
